Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly is being processed at the Harris County jail after getting charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
Houston Police say that Jolly was stopped for a traffic violation in Houston Friday morning at 12:45 A.M. Jolly could not produce a driver's license and police determined his license had expired in 2007 and was denied for renewal.
When police officers checked the vehicle they found a plastic bottle containing codeine. Police say they also found a bottle of an unknown substance in the vehicle.
Jolly was in possession of 600 grams of codeine according to police. Codeine is often mixed with another liquid, such as a soft drink, to form a recreational drug commonly known as "Purple drank."
Jolly was also arrested in 2008 for possession of 200 grams of codeine, a second degree felony. In August of 2010, Jolly avoided going to trial by agreeing with prosecutors on a pretrial diversion. If Jolly stayed out of trouble and completed other requirements, the charges against him would have been dropped in one year. But the latest incident comes before the end of that one year timeline.
In July of 2010, Jolly was suspended indefinitely by the NFL. A call to Jolly's agent has not been returned.
Jolly, 28, played for the Packers from 2006-09. He was a sixth round pick by Green Bay in 2006.
